Spanish-language events are abundant in a city where one-quarter of the population is Hispanic. Spanish is spoken in the homes of nearly 2 million New Yorkers according to the 2000 US Census. It's also spoken, recited and sung on many stages in New York City. Those who haven't quite mastered the language can still practice listening skills at classic and new plays at Pregones Theater, Repertorio Español or Thalia Spanish Theatre—many productions provide English-language translation.
Most museums offer audio guides with a Spanish option, and some can arrange Spanish-language guided tours as well. This collection is made possible through major support by the Reed Foundation.
